A quiet night at the lovely Alwalton lock. We were doubled up with another boat and set off about 8 to head up the Nene.
It was a beautiful sunny day with a fair bit of wind to keep us on our toes. We didn’t share any of the locks despite there being a fair few crews out and about. The Nene locks need to be left empty so although this means all of them are in our favour when we arrive, we have to tie up above each lock and go back to empty it. This can be tricky with wind and current making getting in to the short awkward angled landing stages. A fair bit of “bow thruster” aka long shaft has been needed! We’re still getting used to going up Nene locks in a full length boat but we’re improving our technique with each lock.
Now we are tied up on the small 48hr visitor moorings at Titchmarsh, which we were surprised to find empty at 7pm when we arrived. Lyra likes this spot, and so do we- we went for a little walk around the nearby lake before dinner.
