Day 15: Birmingham – Alvechurch

11 miles

A shorter day today because we want to tackle Tardebigge locks early on in the day tomorrow. We left Cambrian Wharf reluctantly as it is such a great spot for exploring Birmingham but we were also keen to get going again. It was fairly windy but a bright sunny day. Our first pause was at Gas St basin to take a photo of Willow outside the location of the old Severn and Canal warehouse.

Then we were off down the Worcester and Birmingham canal, Willow’s old primary route when carrying. It was slow going along the fairly shallow cut but we didn’t pick up anything nasty on the blades thankfully!

Past Cadbury’s at Bournville, another of Willow’s main stops we could smell the chocolate in the air. Then through the Wast Hill tunnel and out into the country side.

We tied up near Alvechurch marina to pick up a larger header tank for Willow’s engine. Still need a few more bits of hose to connect it up but it should do the trick.
